Doreen Avio clarifies interview with Mzbel, rejects claims of secret recording

Hitz FM presenter Doreen Avio has addressed the controversy surrounding her past interview with veteran singer Mzbel, clarifying her role and intentions during the recording.

Speaking on Stacey Amoateng’s Restoration programme monitored by MyNewsGh, Avio said she was simply carrying out her duties as a journalist when the incident occurred. “I was on my way to work, and I got a call from my boss. There’s this breaking news,” she recalled.

She explained that she informed her boss she did not know the female celebrity in question but was committed to conducting the interview professionally.

“I was only doing my work. My boss called me and told me that he was going to call me and interview me,” Avio said.

Avio addressed claims that she recorded the interview secretly. “Stacey, I did not have peace because Mzbel claims that I did not tell her when I was recording that interview,” she said.

“I called you because you’re my mother, or my sister, or my daughter. Really.”

She emphasized that she followed proper interview procedures and ensured consent.

“Even if I did not know about the job, I learned from the job. I did not do that mistake, because I was told that before you interview someone, you need to let them know before you do it. So I did it,” Avio said.

Reflecting on the experience, she noted the professional lessons it offered. “Wow, sometimes all these experiences teach you exactly how to deal with people, and I’m happy how you’ve just learned and you’ve moved on. I have to move on. That is the most important,” she said.
