Nollywood Is Focusing More on Beauty Than Talent — Shine Rosman

Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has spoken out about what she believes is one of the biggest problems in the Nigerian movie industry — the growing obsession with beauty over acting talent.

Speaking during a recent podcast interview, Rosman said many filmmakers now pay more attention to physical appearance when casting actresses instead of focusing on acting ability.

According to her, this trend is gradually affecting the quality of movies and pushing some actresses into cosmetic surgeries just to meet industry standards.

She explained that while some directors still value raw talent, many producers and filmmakers are more interested in looks, body shape, and social media appeal.

Rosman also said beauty has become overly celebrated in both Nollywood and society, making some women feel pressured to constantly enhance their appearance through heavy makeup, cosmetic procedures, and BBL surgeries.

The actress claimed that in some cases, people with little acting experience are getting movie roles mainly because of their appearance, while more talented actors struggle for opportunities. She called on filmmakers and industry professionals to shift their focus back to talent and storytelling, warning that the future of Nollywood could suffer if the trend continues.
