Nigerian Afrobeats star Ayra Starr has opened up about how her music-making process has changed since she first entered the industry.
Speaking during an appearance on the Creatorium Podcast, the singer explained that she now focuses more on experimenting with sounds rather than relying heavily on emotions to create music.
According to her, songwriting now begins with trying out different ideas, whether through chords, sounds or samples, instead of waiting to feel emotionally inspired.
Ayra Starr said her debut album was largely built around emotional and sad themes, but her recent work is more about exploring creativity and discovering new sounds.
She added that she enjoys making music that feels different and fun, allowing ideas to naturally develop during the creative process.
The singer also shared the story behind her song Beggie Beggie, revealing that she wrote the track while riding in a bus.
According to her, the title came after she overheard a woman reacting to a beggar inside the bus by saying, “See this one, beggie beggie.”Ayra Starr recalled immediately writing the idea down, which later became one of the songs on her debut album.
Reflecting on the realities of fame and success, the Mavin Records artiste said many people only see the glamorous side of the entertainment industry without understanding the hard work behind it.
She explained that music requires discipline, passion and consistency, noting that even after weeks of rehearsals, a single sound problem during a live performance can ruin everything.
