Nearly 20 years after their marriage ended, Rev Ahenkan Bonsu has opened up about the painful moment he realised his relationship with gospel singer Esther Smith was truly over.
Speaking during a recent interview, the pastor said the turning point came after he allegedly discovered that Esther Smith had held a naming ceremony in the United States without his knowledge.
According to him, Esther had travelled abroad for a music event, and he later learned from a friend in America that she had been seen ministering at a church in New York.
His friend allegedly informed him that an announcement had also been made about a naming ceremony she was organising there.
Rev Bonsu said the news left him shocked because, according to him, he was unaware that his wife was pregnant or had given birth.
He further claimed that his friend recorded parts of the ceremony and sent the footage to him.
After watching it, he reportedly took the video to church leaders and decided that was the end of the marriage.
The pastor also revealed that one of the things that hurt him most was the child’s name.
He explained that he had always hoped to name his child “Bright Ahenkan Bonsu,” but was devastated when he allegedly heard the child had been named “Bright Smith Bonsu” instead.Rev Bonsu also alleged that Esther Smith later apologised after the footage was shown before church leadership.
Their marriage reportedly lasted about four years before ending in one of Ghana’s most talked-about celebrity divorces in the late 2000s.Over the years, however, Esther Smith has consistently shared a very different version of events.
The gospel musician previously accused her former husband of domestic abuse and said the marriage was emotionally painful for her.
She has also denied claims that she had a child with another man, insisting that several allegations made against her after the divorce damaged her reputation.
