The Minister for Defence, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency and fairness in the recruitment process into the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to him, enlistment will be based strictly on merit and not influenced by money or political connections.
He said this during a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Defence and Interior at his office in Accra.
Dr Boamah noted that the Ministry is determined to ensure the integrity of the armed forces is upheld through fair and open recruitment processes.
“I emphasised that enlistment and recruitment into the Ghana Armed Forces will be strictly merit-based and not for sale. We are committed to transparency and fairness in our recruitment process,” he posted on his official Facebook page on Thursday, 3rd July.
The meeting, which was led by James Agalga, Chair of the Committee, focused on the Ministry’s broader efforts to strengthen national security and address the challenges facing the security sector.
Dr Boamah briefed the committee on the Ministry’s ongoing initiatives and reiterated the urgent need for modern platforms and equipment for the armed forces to confront emerging threats, particularly in volatile areas.
Members of the Committee commended the Ministry for its dedication and pledged Parliament’s continued support.
“The committee expressed their support for the Ministry’s work and assured us of Parliament’s commitment to advocating and providing the necessary support towards maintaining national security,” Dr Boamah added.
He concluded with a call for collaborative efforts, saying, “Together, we can work towards a safer and more secure Ghana.”
