A Nigerian TikTok creator, Uzebor Emmanuel, widely known as “Aza Woman,” has been arrested by the Edo State Police Command after allegedly spreading false information about a kidnapping incident in Benin City.
The controversy began after she posted a viral video claiming that students from Green Park Academy and Western Boys’ College were kidnapped shortly after writing their junior WAEC exams.
In the video, she urged the public to share the information widely so authorities could respond quickly.
However, the Edo State Police swiftly denied the report, confirming that no kidnapping took place in either of the schools mentioned.
Authorities described the claim as false and misleading, warning that it had caused unnecessary panic among residents.
Police officials said investigations were launched immediately after the video gained traction online, leading to efforts to identify and arrest the source of the misinformation.
On June 6, 2026, the Command confirmed that “Aza Woman” had been taken into custody. She is currently being held as investigations continue, with police stating that she will face prosecution once the case is concluded.Authorities also used the incident to caution social media users against spreading unverified information, stressing that false reports can create fear and disrupt public peace.Her arrest has sparked discussions online about the responsibility of content creators and the consequences of viral misinformation.
