The FirstBank Ghana Women’s Network recently held a transformative mentoring and goal-setting session at OLA Girls’ Senior High School in Ho, impacting over 500 students.
The initiative forms part of FirstBank’s enduring commitment to empowering young women and nurturing leadership skills to prepare them for future challenges and opportunities.
Designed to inspire and equip students with practical tools for both academic and personal growth, the event featured lively discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities with accomplished professionals across various sectors.
The atmosphere was energetic, as students actively engaged with mentors and participated in exercises aimed at sharpening their focus and ambition.
Victor Yaw Asante, Managing Director of FirstBank Ghana, underscored the significance of such initiatives, stating, “Our commitment to empowering the youth is central to our mission. Mentorship and goal-setting are essential pillars of personal and professional development. By investing in their potential, we uplift individual lives and contribute meaningfully to the broader socio-economic progress of our nation. I encourage young leaders to seize every opportunity, learn from those who have gone ahead, and remain steadfast in their pursuit of excellence.”
Mr Asante was joined by several senior leaders from FirstBank Ghana, including Grace Isaac Aryee (Treasurer and Chairperson of the Women’s Network), Ida Appiah (Head, Credit Analysis & Processing), and Herbertha Quansah (Head, Financial Institutions), whose presence brought an added sense of importance and encouragement to the event.
In her address, Naa Adokailey Amofa, Head of Human Capital Management & Development at FirstBank Ghana, offered insightful guidance on career planning and the importance of setting SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) goals. She remarked, “Today, we have reached over 500 bright young minds, equipping them with vital skills to navigate their future careers. Goal-setting is the first step towards realising one’s aspirations. I encourage each of you to dream boldly, pair your dreams with concrete plans, and stay resilient. Every major achievement begins with a single step – and you are never alone on this journey.”
The students took part in workshops covering leadership development, financial literacy, and personal branding. They also had the opportunity to hear from distinguished female leaders who shared candid stories of their own professional journeys, including the hurdles they had to overcome. These stories offered not only motivation but a sense of realism and direction, allowing students to visualise pathways for their own futures.
Jamila Isa Munkaila, Area Head for Accra West at FirstBank Ghana, highlighted the vital role of community engagement in shaping future leaders. “Programmes such as this help bridge the gap between classroom education and real-world experience. We aim to encourage these young women to pursue their passions and lead with assurance,” she noted.
The event also included interactive Q&A sessions, during which students posed insightful questions and received real-time guidance from their mentors. This engagement fostered a strong sense of inclusion and empowerment, reinforcing the message that their ambitions are valid and supported.
In closing, Mr Asante reiterated the importance of collective investment in the youth to help shape a brighter future for Ghana.
He called on all stakeholders to work in unison to inspire and empower the next generation, commending the FirstBank Women’s Network for its vision and dedication. “Your support today has brought hope, joy, and practical guidance to many young girls. It reflects our unwavering commitment to cultivating an inclusive environment where every individual can flourish,” he said.
The mentoring session stands as a testament to FirstBank Ghana’s broader goal of creating a lasting impact through education, empowerment, and partnership.
