“It’s difficult to understand” – Striker Kwabena Owusu opens up on persistent Black Stars snub

Ghana international Kwabena Owusu has voiced out his frustration over persistent Black Stars snub.

Despite playing at the highest level, Owusu has consistently being overlooked by the technical handlers of the national team, something that boggles the forward’s mind.

Owusu spent the second half of the just ended season on loan at Turkish outfit Ankaragucu, scoring nine goals and providing three assists in 15 appearances. Having concluded his loan stint, the forward is expected to return to parent club Ferencvaros in Hungary.

Speaking to Pure FM in Kumasi, Owusu expressed worry about his consistent exclusion from the national team while enjoying top level football.

“It’s hard to understand. I was getting call-ups when I was playing in the lower divisions, but now that I’m at the top level, playing in Europe’s biggest competitions, I’ve been ignored. None of the Black Stars strikers has more goals than me currently.

“This season, I scored 9 goals in 14 games. I feel like some people have taken things personally. I deserve a chance based on performance alone.

“They say I’m disrespectful. I want them to show me where I disrespected anyone. I have always given my best and shown respect.” He told Pure FM.

Owusu made his Black Stars debut in 2019 in a friendly against South Africa before making the final squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt where Ghana exited in round 16 after suffering a penalty shootout loss against Tunisia.
