I’ll use my legal experience to support Ghana’s consular diplomacy – Gyakye Quyason

The Deputy Minister-designate for Foreign Affairs, James Gyakye Quyason, has pledged to leverage his legal experience to tackle citizenship and consular challenges faced by Ghanaians abroad.

Speaking before Parliament’s Appointment Committee during his vetting on Friday, July 25, Mr Quyason reflected on his legal ordeal concerning citizenship and electoral eligibility, which culminated in his acquittal and discharge.

He described the experience as instrumental in deepening his understanding of international law and citizenship policy.

Mr Quyason stated that the knowledge and understanding gained will inform his work at the Foreign Affairs Ministry.

“My brothers and sisters outside in the diaspora have immense resources, knowledge, and experience … Ghanaians have a volume of academics and experienced people, but we also need those who have exposure to add on… to make negotiating with the outside world a lot easier.”

If approved, the Assin North legislature said he will back Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to strengthen bilateral engagements and diplomacy.

He maintained that he is ready to support Ghana’s diplomatic outreach and ensure the nation fully benefits from global partnerships.
