President John Dramani Mahama has praised the Absa Black Star Marathon, describing it as a growing part of Ghana’s tourism experience.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the event in Accra on Saturday, July 26, he noted that: “The Black Star Marathon has become a part of Ghana’s tourism experience, and we’ve labeled it the Black Star experience. I’m lending my presence to it today to show how important this project is for us.”
He also expressed excitement about the international turnout.
“I’m happy to see this beautiful turnout. So many athletes are here from 28 different nations.”
Though he admitted he has never run a marathon, he encouraged and admired those who took part.
“I’ve never run a marathon before. I don’t have the energy to run a marathon. But I admire all of you who attempt to do it.”
The 2025 Absa Black Star Marathon attracted runners from across the world, competing in various categories including 42km, 21km, and 10km races. The event blended sport and culture, positioning Ghana as a key destination for international sports tourism.
