The Ghana Football Association’s in collaboration with the Volta Regional FA has successfully organized the Football ‘4’ Girls grassroots initiative in Sogakope, Volta Region.
The programme, aimed at identifying and nurturing young female football talents at the basic school level, brought together 20 schools from across the South Tongu District.
The event featured a fun-filled football gala, which provided an opportunity for the girls to showcase their skills and engage with the sport in a supportive environment.
The participating Schools included Agorkpo RC/D.A Basic, Sogakope PCG Basic, Sogakope D.A Basic ‘A’, Sogakope D.A Basic ‘B’, Sogakope D.A Basic ‘C’, Sogakope E.P Basic, SOGASCO D.A Primary, Sogakope Comboni Basic, Sogakope Cuiniberto Basic, Toklokpo D.A Primary, Avegorme Baptist Primary and Total Child International School
The Football ‘4’ Girls project focuses on grooming budding talents from basic schools and inspiring young girls to pursue football at an early age. It is a key component of the Football Association’s broader strategy to promote women’s football across all levels.
In addition to the football activities, the programme also implemented the Education pillar of the Women’s Football Strategy. The girls were educated on dispelling societal misconceptions about girls playing football and were inspired with success stories of accomplished female footballers, both local and international. Teachers and headteachers were also encouraged to foster positive and inclusive communication to support and empower young girls in sports.
The delegation in attendance included Central Tongu District FA Chairman, Atsu Kuadey , South Tongu DFA Chairman, Francis Agbedeke Quarshie, Volta RFA Media & Communications / South Tongu DFA Media & Comms, Abimael Kponu, Volta RFA Executive Committee Member & Technical Chairman, Torku Martin, South Tongu DFA Vice Chairman, Silas Amebley, South Tongu DFA Executive Committee Member, Lebene Numekevor, Volta RFA Scout, Fiawoyife Asiwome and headteachers and teachers from participating schools
To further support the schools and sustain interest in the programme, footballs and branded T-shirts were distributed as souvenirs. The footballs are to be used during Physical Education sessions.
