Throne Day: Trump reaffirms U.S. recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over Sahara

U.S. President Donald J. Trump has reaffirmed the United States’ recognition of Morocco’s sovereignty over Western Sahara and reiterated support for the Moroccan Autonomy Proposal as the only viable solution to the long-standing dispute.

This was contained in a message to King Mohammed VI on the occasion of Throne Day.

“I also reiterate that the United States recognises Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and supports Morocco’s serious, credible, and realistic Autonomy Proposal as the only basis for a just and lasting solution to the dispute,” President Trump stated.

Conveying his congratulations to the King and the Moroccan people on behalf of the United States, President Trump emphasised the strength of U.S.-Morocco relations.

“The United States deeply values our strong and enduring partnership with Morocco. Together, we are advancing shared priorities for peace and security in the region, including by building on the Abraham Accords, combating terrorism, and expanding commercial cooperation that benefits both Americans and Moroccans.”

President Trump concluded his message by expressing his desire to further strengthen bilateral ties.

“I look forward to continuing our collaboration to promote regional stability, prosperity, and peace,” he said.
