The high-ranking officials were aboard a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter en route to Obuasi on a national assignment when the aircraft plunged into a forest and burst into flames, killing all occupants.

The victims of the tragic crash are:

  • Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
  • Mr Samuel Aboagye, Former Parliamentary Candidate
  • Squadron Leader Peter Bafimi Anala
  • Flying Officer Twum Ampadu
  • Sergeant Ernest Addo

The Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, announced the tragic news at a press conference and directed that all national flags be flown at half-mast in honour of the victims.

In an official statement, the association described the victims as “patriotic Ghanaians” and extended heartfelt condolences to the people of Ghana, particularly the families of those who lost their lives in the line of duty.

“We of the GBA extend our heartfelt condolences and sympathies to the good people of Ghana, particularly to the families of these patriotic Ghanaians, who died in line of duty,” the statement read.

The association also invoked a message of spiritual comfort, quoting scripture: “May the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, comfort the bereaved families.”

“Our prayers are with the bereaved families. May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
