Mahama: ‘Flight data and voice recorders retrieved, families being supported’

President John Mahama has confirmed that a full investigation is underway into the tragic helicopter crash that claimed eight lives on Wednesday, 6 August.

Speaking for the first time since the incident, the President addressed the nation from the Jubilee House on Thursday, 7 August, providing key updates on the government’s response and ongoing efforts to determine the cause of the accident.

“An Investigative Board of Inquiry has been set up to investigate the cause of the crash,” President Mahama stated, assuring the public of transparency and accountability in uncovering the facts.

He added that the flight data and cockpit voice recorders — often referred to as the “black boxes” — have already been retrieved, which will aid in the technical analysis of the events leading up to the disaster.

The President also confirmed that all eight bodies of the victims had been recovered.

“All eight of the bodies of our departed comrades have been retrieved,” he said solemnly, acknowledging the loss with a tone of national mourning.

“He further noted that the government is actively engaged with the bereaved families to ensure proper identification and arrangements for final interment.

President Mahama expressed his condolences and pledged continued support to the families affected by the tragedy.

He called for unity in this moment of grief, while assuring Ghanaians that every effort is being made to understand how such a tragic event could have occurred and to prevent similar incidents in future.
