American R&B star Chris Brown has pleaded guilty to affray in connection with a violent incident that took place at a London nightclub in February 2023.
The singer admitted to the offence during a brief court appearance on Friday. More serious charges, including assault, attempted grievous bodily harm, and possession of an offensive weapon, were dropped after his guilty plea.
The incident happened at a private nightclub in London’s Mayfair district, where Brown was accused of attacking music producer Abe Diaw with a glass bottle before the victim was chased and assaulted. Diaw reportedly suffered head and knee injuries that required hospital treatment.Brown’s associate and fellow performer, Omololu Akinlolu, also pleaded guilty to affray.
The pair will both be sentenced on October 26.Following the hearing, Brown was allowed to remain on bail and can continue travelling, provided he returns to the UK before his sentencing.Outside the courthouse, the award-winning singer greeted fans, signed autographs, and thanked supporters who had gathered to show their support.Chris Brown, known for hit songs including Loyal, With You, and Look at Me Now, has faced legal troubles in the past, most notably his 2009 assault case involving then-girlfriend Rihanna.
He later expressed regret over that incident, saying it would remain one of the biggest mistakes of his life.The upcoming sentencing will determine the punishment Brown and Akinlolu will receive for the affray conviction.
