Nollywood actor and singer Gabriel Afolayan has attributed the growing popularity of Yoruba-language films to the years of dedication, consistency, and hard work invested by filmmakers and actors in the industry.
Speaking about the increasing attention Yoruba movies are receiving, Afolayan said the success did not happen by chance. According to him, the recognition being enjoyed today is the result of years of commitment to producing quality content.
He explained that those working in the industry are now seeing the rewards of their efforts, adding that hard work naturally brings positive results over time.The actor also spoke about his popular nickname, “Gabbylucciii,” revealing that it reflects both his identity and ambitions.
He explained that “Gabby” is derived from his name, Gabriel, while “Lucci” symbolizes leadership, success, and striving to be at the top.Discussing his acting career, Afolayan described every role as a learning experience. He noted that each character comes with its own challenges, requiring different levels of preparation, research, mindset, and emotional investment.
According to him, no role is necessarily more difficult than another because every project demands a unique approach.
He sees himself as a student of the craft who continues to learn and grow with every performance.The actor encouraged fellow creatives to focus on delivering their best work rather than seeking validation from others. He advised artists to stay committed to their craft, embrace their characters fully, and allow audiences to judge the final result.
Gabriel Afolayan comes from one of Nigeria’s most respected entertainment families. He is the son of legendary filmmaker Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, and the younger brother of acclaimed filmmaker Kunle Afolayan.
A graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Ibadan, Afolayan has built a successful career in both film and music. He is widely known for his performances in films such as Hoodrush, Aramotu, Coming from Insanity, and Citation.Beyond acting, he has also gained recognition as a musician through songs such as Awelewa and Kokoro Ife, successfully blending his passion for music and storytelling throughout his career.
