Veteran Nollywood comic actor Nkem Owoh, popularly known as Osuofia, has revealed that he never originally intended to become an actor, describing his journey into the spotlight as something that happened unexpectedly.
Speaking in a recent podcast interview, the actor said his main passion was writing scripts behind the scenes. According to him, it was his colleagues who noticed his natural ability to make people laugh and began encouraging him to appear on screen instead of staying behind the camera.
He explained that the push eventually led to an opportunity in the 1980s, when he was given a short comedy segment on television.
Although he initially resisted stepping in front of the camera, he eventually gave in after persistent encouragement from others.Owoh said the response from audiences changed everything for him, as people connected strongly with his humor and performances, which gradually launched his acting career.
Despite his success, the actor reflected on the challenges that come with fame. He noted that becoming a public figure significantly reduced his personal freedom and changed the way he lives daily life.According to him, many people only see the glamour of celebrity life but do not understand the limitations and pressures that come with constant public attention.
He also added that while fame brought him recognition, it also came with restrictions he never experienced before, making everyday activities more difficult than they used to be.
