May Yul-Edochie has taken legal action against her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, Yinka Omolola Theisen, and several unidentified social media account operators, accusing them of orchestrating a prolonged campaign of online harassment against her.
The lawsuit, filed before a Lagos High Court through her new legal team, seeks a total of ₦1.5 billion in damages, along with court orders to stop the alleged harassment and remove all disputed content from social media platforms.
According to court documents, May claims she was subjected to defamatory posts, manipulated and AI-generated images, false stories, insulting content, and repeated online attacks that allegedly damaged her reputation and personal life. She also alleges that confidential information shared during her previous lawyer-client relationship was disclosed without her consent, describing it as a breach of professional confidentiality.
The legal battle is linked to the public fallout following her estranged husband, actor Yul Edochie’s, announcement in 2022 that he had married actress Judy Austin as his second wife. The development attracted widespread public attention, making May a frequent subject of online discussions. In her court filings, May alleges that the online attacks continued for years, with some anonymous accounts allegedly created to keep the campaign going even after earlier accounts were reported.
She further claims that her personal contact details were leaked online, exposing her and her family to harassment beyond social media. According to her, the alleged campaign also affected her business, resulting in lost endorsement deals, damaged professional relationships, and financial losses.
Before heading to court, May says she issued cease-and-desist letters in 2025, requesting that the offensive content be removed and public apologies issued. However, she claims the harassment continued. As part of the lawsuit, she is seeking ₦1 billion in damages from Emeka Ugwuonye and ₦500 million from Yinka Omolola Theisen.
She is also asking the court to compel social media platforms to reveal the identities of anonymous account operators allegedly involved in the campaign. The court has directed that legal documents be served on the defendants through all available communication channels, while the case has been adjourned for a report on service.
