Ghanaian music star Shatta Wale has shared how difficult life was during the early years of his career, revealing that he once relied on his girlfriend for accommodation despite already being a well-known artist.
Speaking on a recent podcast, the singer said entertainers in Ghana do not receive the same level of support and financial rewards as their counterparts in Nigeria.
According to him, there was a time when he had no stable place to stay and was forced to live with his girlfriend and her parents. He also recalled using taxis to attend music shows because he could not afford a personal vehicle.”Nigerians appreciate success, but Ghana doesn’t appreciate success. As famous as I was, I slept on the streets. At one point, my girlfriend, who lived with her parents, accommodated me.
Even as a popular Ghanaian artist, I took taxis to shows. Many Ghanaian artists still earn very little, while Nigerian artists make much more.”Shatta Wale said the lack of appreciation for entertainers in Ghana has made it difficult for many artists to enjoy financial stability despite their popularity.He encouraged Ghanaian musicians to learn from the Nigerian entertainment industry by setting higher standards and pushing for better opportunities and rewards.
