Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has shared new details about the leaked private video that surfaced online in 2021, describing the experience as one of the most painful moments of her life.
Speaking during an interview on The Breakfast Club, the singer revealed that the leak was connected to her then-boyfriend, who she later discovered had allegedly exposed the video as part of a bet with his friends.
According to Tiwa, she initially believed the video had been shared by mistake after her boyfriend told her he accidentally sent it while trying to save it. However, she later found out there was more to the story, leaving her feeling deeply betrayed.She said the experience made her question whether the relationship had ever been genuine and admitted that the emotional pain stayed with her long after the incident.
The singer also revealed that the incident changed how she approaches relationships. She explained that she no longer visits romantic partners in hotel rooms because of concerns about hidden cameras, choosing instead to meet only in places where she feels safe and in control.
Looking back, Tiwa said she initially tried to hide her pain by making jokes about the incident and even referenced it in one of her songs. However, she now accepts that she was deeply affected and sees herself as a victim rather than someone who deserved the public backlash.
She also dismissed claims that the leaked video was a publicity stunt, insisting she would never use such an experience to promote herself. According to the singer, pursuing legal action eventually became too emotionally draining because she constantly had to relive the traumatic experience.During the interview, Tiwa Savage also spoke about her latest album, This One Is Personal, ageism in the music industry, and her journey of rebuilding her career despite public controversies.
