In a historic move, the African Corporate Governance Network (ACGN), has announced the appointment of Rev. (Mrs.) Angela Carmen Appiah, (FIoD-Gh) and immediate past president of IoD-Ghana, as its first female Chief Executive since the organization commenced in 2013.
The prestigious international governance body represents a coalition of about 25 institutes of directors (IoDs) and governance institutes across Africa.
In a statement, Gilfern Moyo, Chair of the governing board of ACGN, made the announcement following a unanimous board decision.
He stated that, “Rev. Appiah brings an extraordinary combination of strategic vision, operational excellence, and a deep commitment to inclusive governance.”
“Her appointment marks a transformative moment for ACGN as we enter a new era of innovation and impact.” He emphasized.
With over 30 years of distinguished leadership in healthcare, corporate governance, board secretaryship, and company directorship, Rev. Appiah most recently served as Chair of the Interim Management Committee of ACGN, where she managed a successful transition.
A recognized thought leader in ethical leadership, Rev. Appiah, who assumes the role effective July 2025, has been instrumental in shaping local and regional standards for corporate governance.
“It is both an honor and a profound responsibility to lead this esteemed institution,” said Rev. Appiah in her acceptance response.
“I look forward to working with our network of members to advance excellence in governance, amplify diverse voices across our profession, and deliver exceptional value during this period of rapid transformation.” She added.
The appointment coincides with ACGN’s launch of an ambitious five-year strategic plan, which includes expanding professional certification programs across emerging markets, spearheading digital transformation of member services, establishing new global benchmarks for sector-specific governance standards and empowering youth as a strategic priority for sustainable development.
