The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church has expressed sorrow following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals on Wednesday, 6 August 2025.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Church extended its deepest condolences to President John Dramani Mahama, the Government of Ghana, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the bereaved families affected by the national tragedy.

Describing the incident as one that has “shaken the nation to its very core,” the Presiding Bishop, Rt. Rev. Dr Hilliard K. Dela Dogbe said the Church mourns with the entire country over the devastating loss of “gallant men who paid the ultimate price in service to our dear nation.”

“Our thoughts and prayers are with all who have been impacted. We stand united with the nation in mourning,” the statement read. “The psalmist reminds us that God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble. Thus, in this grim and difficult time, we pray divine comfort and healing for the bereaved families, even as we pray a peaceful repose for the souls of our beloved brethren.”

The accident, which occurred during an official assignment, has left a deep void within the armed forces and has triggered a wave of national mourning across political, religious, and civil society leadership.

As tributes continue to pour in from across the country and beyond, the AME Zion Church called on Ghanaians to reflect on the selflessness of the departed and to draw inspiration from their service and sacrifice.

“May the memories of the departed live on, and may their sacrifice spur us on to offer our best in selfless service to God and Ghana,” Bishop Dogbe concluded.

The tragedy has prompted an outpouring of grief across the nation, with flags flying at half-mast and religious communities holding intercessory services in honour of the deceased.
