As the conflict between Israel and Iran progresses into its second week, Ghana has implemented a thorough Emergency Evacuation Plan for its citizens in Israel, which is prepared to be activated as soon as conditions allow.
Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa disclosed that Ghana’s embassy in Israel has located 922 Ghanaians residing in the country, which includes 65 students attending six Israeli universities.
“Ghana’s embassy in Israel has located 922 Ghanaians currently residing in Israel… 65 Ghanaian students enrolled in 6 Israeli universities,” he stated.
Although evacuation efforts from Israel are presently hindered by border closures and a state of emergency declaration, Ghana is actively engaging through diplomatic channels to obtain approval for a secure exit.
“An evacuation from Israel cannot be executed at this time without the explicit authorization of Israeli authorities — Ghana is pursuing those approval avenues.”
In the interim, the Ghanaian embassy is operating remotely as per the guidance of Israel’s Foreign Ministry, and robust communication lines with the Ghanaian community have been firmly established.
Furthermore, measures have been taken to ensure that Ghanaians have access to bomb shelters.
Ablakwa assured that once evacuation approvals are obtained, the plan will be executed promptly to safeguard citizens from danger.
“We shall not fail our compatriots,” he concluded.
