The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has officially announced that a rerun of the Ashanti Regional Chairman Election will take place on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at the Electoral Commission Regional Office in Kumasi.
The EDAC of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) ordered a re-run of the Ashanti Regional Chairperson elections following serious procedural irregularities that, according to the committee, compromised the integrity and fairness of the June 30, 2025, polls.
The decision follows a ruling by the Association’s Elections Dispute Adjudication Committee (EDAC), which reviewed a petition and various stakeholder submissions, ultimately ordering fresh polls to ensure fairness, transparency, and adherence to electoral guidelines.
According to the GJA Elections Committee, the rerun is aimed at restoring confidence in the electoral process and reinforcing the Association’s commitment to democratic principles.
Voters’ Register and Electoral Preparations
A composite Voters’ Register for the Ashanti Region will be published this week on the official GJA website and the Association’s Regional Platform. All candidates will also receive access to the register to promote transparency ahead of the polls.

- Time: 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Venue: Electoral Commission Regional Office, Kumasi
- Identification Required: Valid Ghana Card or Passport
- Supervision: Officials from the Electoral Commission of Ghana, with coordination from a GJA Regional representative
Ballot counting will commence immediately after polls close, with results expected to be declared on-site the same day.

The GJA Elections Committee is urging all eligible members in the Ashanti Region to actively participate in the election and to uphold the values of integrity, unity, and professionalism that are central to the Association’s mission.
