Gov’t Probes Claims of Assassination Attempts on Kissi Agyebeng and Assault on OSP Official

The Ministry of the Interior has directed a full-scale investigation into shocking claims that the Special Prosecutor, Mr. Kissi Agyebeng, survived two assassination attempts while performing his duties.

The decision follows revelations made by the Director of Research, Communications and Strategy at the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), Sammy Darko, during an appearance on Newsfile on Saturday, December 6. His comments come at a time when public pressure on the OSP to deliver on its anti-corruption mandate continues to intensify.

According to the Ministry, Mr. Darko also alleged on the same programme that he had been handcuffed and assaulted by 17 police officers—claims the Ministry describes as deeply troubling.

“The Director of Strategy, Research and Communications at the Office of the Special Prosecutor, Mr Samuel Appiah Darko, mentioned the assassination attempt on Newsfile on December 6, 2025. He also claimed on the same programme that he had been handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel,” the statement noted.

The Ministry said such allegations, if confirmed, pose a severe threat to Ghana’s anti-corruption agenda and undermine the safety of officials leading accountability efforts.

Preliminary engagement with the Special Prosecutor indicates that the alleged assassination attempts occurred before 2025. However, authorities say no official report of such threats exists in any police or security agency records.

In response, the Minister for the Interior has issued two directives. First, a comprehensive investigation has been ordered into the alleged assassination attempts, stressing that “crime does not expire.” Second, a separate inquiry will examine Mr. Darko’s claim that he was handcuffed and assaulted by multiple police officers.

“The Ministry has ordered a full-scale investigation into the claim of assassination attempts, and another inquiry into the allegation that Mr. Samuel Appiah Darko was handcuffed and beaten by 17 police personnel,” the statement added.

The Ministry assured the public that updates will be provided once findings are concluded and necessary actions are taken.

Reaffirming its mandate, the Ministry stressed its commitment to protecting lives and ensuring that all individuals can go about their lawful duties without fear.

“The Ministry of the Interior reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety of all Ghanaians and safeguarding lives and property,” the statement concluded.
