Helicopter crash: EC mourns Omane Boamah



The Electoral Commission of Ghana has expressed profound sorrow following the tragic death of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, who lost his life in a helicopter crash along with seven other citizens.

In a statement signed by the Chairperson, Jean Mensa, the commission expressed profound shock at the news.

“The Electoral Commission has received with shock and dismay the news of the tragic passing away of Dr Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Ghana’s Minister for Defence and a valued member of the Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC), who tragically lost his life alongside seven other citizens in a helicopter accident,” the statement said

Highlighting his significant contributions to Ghana’s democratic landscape, the commission stated, “Dr Omane Boamah was an active and dedicated member of the IPAC and was well-known for his vocal contributions. He was committed to strengthening Ghana’s democratic and electoral processes. His absence at our meetings will be felt.”

The Commission extended its heartfelt condolences to President Mahama, the Government, bereaved families, and the people of Ghana.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time. May the souls of the departed Rest in Peace,” the statement concluded.
