Gospel musician Mabel Okyere has shared the struggles she went through before the release of her hit song, ‘Anuonyam’ (Glory), popularly known as ‘Aha Y3 Kwan Ho’, literally translated as ‘This is a roadside’.
In an interview on Joy Prime’s Changes show, she told Roselyn Felli that the lyrics of the song are a direct representation of her struggles in life.
She added that the writer, Nana Boateng, carefully wrote the song for her because he witnessed her humble beginnings and the pains she experienced.
After receiving the lyrics and going into the studio to record the song, she encountered a severe illness that almost killed her before the song was released.
“I’ve worked with him for a long time, since 2013, when I started gospel music. Since we’ve been together, he knows what I can do when God gives him a song. With the ‘Aha Y3 Kwan ho’ song in particular, when he sent it to me, I told him that it is a term that’s always used in everyday conversations so how can we use that to create a gospel song? When we entered the studio to record, I realised he actually used my life experience in writing the song. Before I released the song, I faced a lot of challenges, especially sickness.”
For the saving grace she received from God, she has vowed to testify to people wherever she goes.
Seeing how far God has brought her after her traumatic experience, she decided to praise Him with her new song titled ‘So Far So Good’.
The video for the song, which she says depicts her past experiences, is currently out and streaming on all platforms.
