Brigadier General (Rtd) Joseph Nunoo-Mensah has firmly rejected military rule, describing it as dangerous and misguided.
Speaking on The KSM Show monitored by MyNewsGh, he said soldiers have no business governing a country.
“I hate military governments,” he said. “It is not our job to run the country.”
According to him, the military’s role is limited to defending the nation from external threats, not engaging in politics.
“If you want to do politics, put the uniform down,” he said.
Nunoo-Mensah revealed that he warned military leaders in the past to hand over power to civilians, even when it cost him his position.
“I told them to leave power and go,” he said. “I was ready to resign.”
He explained that corruption within the military was one of the signs that led to instability.
“I saw June 4th coming,” he said. “The army was becoming corrupt.”
The retired general said Ghana failed to learn from past military interventions.
“If you don’t learn lessons, you will repeat the mess,” he warned.
Despite his long military career, Nunoo-Mensah insisted democracy, though flawed, remains the best option.
“The army is a clean profession,” he said. “But politics is not our job.”
