Sharaf Mahama’s Legacy Rise Sports has expressed sympathy following the death of two members of Anthony Joshua’s team in a fatal road accident in Nigeria that also left the former heavyweight champion injured.

In a statement, the sports promotion outfit, owned by Sharaf Mahama, son of Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama, said it was mourning with Joshua and those affected by the tragedy.

Legacy Rise Sports clarified that while it was not confirming the incident, it was standing in solidarity with the boxer during the difficult moment.

“Our hearts go out to Anthony Joshua and the families of those who lost their lives,” the statement said, noting that the deceased had spent time in Ghana recently.

Anthony Joshua was hosted in Ghana by Sharaf Mahama not long ago, where he witnessed a boxing bout organised under the Legacy Rise Sports banner.

The organisation recalled that the visit helped strengthen ties between Joshua’s team and the local boxing community.

Two of Joshua’s close associates, Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, were killed when the vehicle they were travelling in collided with a stationary truck in Ogun State. Joshua, who was a passenger, sustained injuries and was hospitalised.

Legacy Rise Sports said it was praying for the families of the deceased and wished Joshua a speedy recovery, adding that the loss had been deeply felt within the wider boxing fraternity.
