Let the sacrifice of the eight inspire a united and safer Ghana – Felix Kwakye Ofosu

Presidential Spokesperson and Minister of State for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has called on Ghanaians to let the sacrifice of the eight victims of the August 6 military helicopter crash inspire a renewed commitment to unity, integrity, and national service.

Speaking at the Evening of Reflections and Memorial for the departed, held at the Forecourt of the State House on Saturday, August 9, Mr Ofosu described the victims as “eight brave souls whose lives were tragically cut short in service to our nation.”

“They answered the call to serve, facing the inherent risks that come with safeguarding our national peace and progress,” he said.

“Their tragic passing in the line of duty represents the ultimate sacrifice, a stark reminder of the immense personal cost borne by those who stand ready to serve our nation.”

He urged Ghanaians to honour their memory by upholding the values they embodied — courage, professionalism, and patriotism, and to work toward building “a Ghana truly worthy of their sacrifice, a nation of greater safety, enduring peace and unwavering unity.”

Kwakye Ofosu also called for unwavering support for the families of the victims, assuring them that “we stand with you now and always.”

The memorial service was part of a three-day national mourning period for Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six others who died when a Ghana Air Force helicopter went down in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
