Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, has called for collective commitment and action to promote environmental cleanliness in the region, making it more attractive and welcoming to both visitors and investors.
He emphasised that existing sanitation regulations and byelaws must be strictly enforced by the various Assemblies to achieve meaningful progress, noting that sanitation remains a top priority for the Presidency.
Dr. Amoakohene made the remarks during an engagement with chiefs and residents of Asuofua-Asamang, where he participated in a clean-up exercise organised by the Atwima Nwabiagya North District Assembly across selected electoral areas.
As part of his visit, the Minister also inspected stalled development projects and held discussions with traditional leaders, opinion leaders, and other stakeholders on improving infrastructure and services in the district.
The exercise formed part of the “Keep Ashanti Clean” initiative, aimed at enhancing environmental hygiene across the region, especially in preparation for the visit of His Royal Majesty King Mswati III of Eswatini (formerly Swaziland), who is expected in Kumasi this week.
Dr. Amoakohene commended the chiefs and community members for their active role in improving sanitation and development in their area.
He pledged to support local traders, shop owners, drivers, and other residents with waste bins to facilitate proper refuse disposal and reduce littering before, during, and after their daily activities.
Mba Alenbila Zechariah, the District Chief Executive (DCE), urged officials from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Environmental Health Department, and related agencies to intensify public education on sanitation.
He also stressed the need to enforce sanitation laws, warning that persons who flout the regulations could face prosecution.
He encouraged all individuals and households to uphold proper hygienic practices in their communities to prevent sanitation-related diseases and promote healthier living.
Nana Banie Ahenkan, queenmother of Asuofua, expressed gratitude to the Regional Minister, the DCE and their entourage for their active participation in the clean-up exercise and support for community development.
