Let’s organise masterclasses for up and coming music producers – Appietus

Ghanaian music producer Appiah Dankwah, popularly known as Appietus, has called on experienced music producers to organise masterclasses for emerging talents in the industry.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z, Appietus said many up-and-coming producers lack the fundamental skills required to achieve high-quality sound in their work.

“My feeling is that we the professionals have to come together and help these guys. Maybe all of us will decide that we are going to put together a masterclass to help these younger guys. I feel that they want to know because people keep asking me ‘Oh Appiah, the song you did 20 years ago, anytime I hear it, the sound quality is good, why is it that I don’t have mine in that manner?’ And they keep buying some equipment and software that is not helping them,” he said.

He stressed that without understanding the basics, the younger producers will continue to face challenges.

“They need to understand what they are doing first but they don’t. So if we don’t help them… help them means let’s do some masterclass. Obviously we are going to get paid. If the government is going to come in, the Kwame Yeboahs, the Zapp Mallets, JMJ, Ubeatz, everybody, we are all helping these guys, giving them our ideas, we share with them, they will be better.”

According to Appietus, while such training initiatives might be costly, collaboration between musicians’ unions could make them possible.

Appietus is an award-winning Ghanaian music producer and sound engineer who has worked with some of Africa’s biggest music stars. Known for his signature “Appietus in the mix” tag, he has produced numerous hit songs across genres including hiplife, highlife and gospel.

His career spans over two decades, during which he has earned a reputation for exceptional sound quality and innovation in music production.
