The Majority caucus in Parliament has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including senior government officials and military personnel, on August 6, 2025, in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.
In a statement issued on behalf of the caucus, heartfelt condolences were extended to the families and loved ones of the deceased.
“It is with a deeply broken heart and profound sorrow that I, on behalf of the parliamentary caucus, extend my deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and loved ones of our colleagues and distinguished patriotic Ghanaians who lost their lives in the tragic helicopter crash,” the statement read.
Among those who tragically lost their lives were Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central.
Also on board were Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, and Dr Samuel Sarpong, Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The crash also claimed the life of Samuel Aboagye, a former NDC parliamentary candidate for Obuasi East.
The military personnel who perished in the crash included Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, the pilot, Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, the co-pilot, and Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, a crew member.
The caucus described the incident as a devastating blow to the country, particularly the parliament, government, and the Armed Forces, noting the outstanding service and patriotism of those who died.
“Our former colleagues in Parliament and government, and the officers we have lost, dedicated their lives to the service of our nation. Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow to Parliament, the government, the Armed Forces and the people of Ghana as a whole.”
The statement also honoured their memory and service to the nation.
“On behalf of the Parliamentary Caucus, I join the President, Members of the Government, and
all Ghanaians in expressing heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“Their sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty will forever be etched in the history of our Republic. May their souls Rest in Peace.”
