Minority in parliament donates GH₵100,000 to Black Queens after WAFCON bronze finish

Ghana’s Minority in Parliament has donated a sum of GH₵100,000 to the Black Queens in recognition of their impressive third-place finish at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The announcement was made on the floor of Parliament by Minority Leader, Hon. Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who praised the team for their resilience and strong performance throughout the tournament.

Ghana’s Black Queens returned home on Monday with the team’s stellar performance further highlighted by the inclusion of Grace Asantewaa and Portia Boakye in the tournament’s Team of the Tournament, recognizing them among the best performers of the competition.

The Black Queens will begin their quest for back-to-back WAFCON tournaments with a two-legged game against Egypt later this year, with the games scheduled to be played between October 20 and 28, 2025.
