Muslim victims of helicopter crash to be buried today

A solemn burial ceremony is scheduled to take place today for two Muslim victims of the tragic military helicopter crash that occurred on August 6.

Former Minister for Environment Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Murtala and former Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator Alhaji Muniru Limuna Mohammed will be laid to rest in accordance with Islamic tradition.

The ceremony, announced by the Presidency, will begin with Janazah prayers at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House in Accra.

The burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Military Cemetery in Accra.

The two officials were among eight people who died when a Ghana Air Force helicopter crashed in the Adansi-Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region.

The national tragedy has prompted a wave of mourning, with tributes pouring in from across the country.

Today’s burial rites are expected to draw a host of high-profile dignitaries, including President John Mahama, the Vice President, the Speaker of Parliament, and the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Religious leaders such as the National Chief Imam and the leader of the Ambariya Sunni Group will also be in attendance, along with the families of the deceased and traditional leaders.

While the two Muslim victims are being buried today, a larger inter-denominational state funeral for all eight victims is scheduled for Friday, August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square.

This will provide a final opportunity for the entire nation to pay its respects and honour the memory of all those who perished in the service of Ghana.
