Hitz FM’s Doreen Avio has addressed the longstanding feud with veteran singer Mzbel over a past interview, insisting she acted ethically throughout.
On Stacy Amoateng’s Restoration show, Avio recounted receiving instructions from her supervisor regarding a breaking news story involving a female celebrity.
“I was on my way to work, and I got a call from my boss. There’s this breaking news,” she said.
“I told him that I don’t know any female celebrities. But I was only doing my work.”
She clarified her approach during the interview with Mzbel, disputing allegations that she recorded without consent.
“Stacey, I did not have peace because Ms. Bell claims that I did not tell her when I was recording that interview,” Avio said. “I called you because you’re my mother, or my sister, or my daughter. Really.”
Avio also highlighted the lessons she learned as a journalist. “Even if I did not know about the job, I learned from the job. I did not do that mistake, because I was told that before you interview someone, you need to let them know before you do it. So I did it,” she said.
Reflecting on the broader impact, she added, “Wow, sometimes all these experiences teach you exactly how to deal with people, and I’m happy how you’ve just learned and you’ve moved on. I have to move on. That is the most important.”
