Oriens Complex School holds Graduation

The Oriens Complex School, a model basic school at Ngleshie Amanfro within the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region, has held its annual graduation ceremony at its premises at American Farm.

This year’s event, themed “SANKOFA: Celebrating the Present and Resetting for the Future,” featured inspiring speeches and performances that showcased the students’ talents.

Headteacher Mr. M.Y.K. Mensah, in his welcome address, thanked parents and stakeholders for their continued support.

“Today is a day of celebration,” he said. “We honour our students for their hard work. From just four pupils in 2013, we now have 56 graduands. This growth reflects the dedication of our teachers, support from parents, and effort from our students.”

He highlighted the school’s strong 2024 BECE performance, with 20 students gaining admission to top senior high schools.

Mr. Mensah appealed to the new Ga South MCE, Mr. Moses Kabu Kubi Ocansey, to prioritise road construction in the area, noting that poor roads disrupt attendance during rains. He also cited challenges such as delayed fee payments and called for greater stakeholder support.

The event featured a variety of performances. The school’s cadet and gymnastics teams opened with a display of discipline and skill, followed by kindergarten pupils dancing and reciting poems. Primary and JHS students performed dramas and dances, and a fashion show featured designs by one of the teachers. A detergent-making demonstration impressed the audience.

Guest speaker Mr. Henry Ayetse, Ga South Municipal Director of Education, praised the school’s achievements and urged graduates to embrace change and lifelong learning.

“Today, you begin a new journey,” he said. “Keep learning, stay curious, and hold on to the values that brought you here.”

He emphasised the need for community involvement in education, saying, “Schools cannot do it alone. Oriens Complex School shows what is possible when we work together.”

Outstanding students received awards for academic excellence. Master Benzion Amamu, who earned top honours in French, English, Mathematics, and Science, was named Overall Best Student.

Speaking after the event, Benzion expressed gratitude. “Winning these awards means a lot. I want to use my education to help my community and country. I thank my teachers, parents, and friends for their support.”
