President John Mahama has called on Ghanaians to demand the highest standards of integrity and accountability from his administration and all public officeholders.
Speaking at the forecourt of the State House during the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service, the President stressed that leadership is a sacred trust that must prioritize service over personal gain.
“You must hold those in authority, including myself, accountable to the highest standards of integrity and humility,” he stated.
“Public office is not a privilege for personal gain. It is a sacred trust bestowed by the people and carries the responsibility to serve all, especially the most vulnerable among us.”
President Mahama insisted that no office, including the presidency, is above the law.
“Leadership must be grounded in justice, honesty, and the reverence of God. If we want a just Ghana, we must be just in leadership,” he declared.
Reflecting on the true measure of a nation’s greatness, he noted that material achievements alone do not define progress.
“Greatness is not measured by the height of skyscrapers or the size of its budget. The values of its people are the true measure of a nation’s strength,” he said.
“The virtues of courage, honesty, discipline, sacrifice, and compassion are what we measure the greatness of any nation by,” President Mahama added, urging leaders and citizens alike to uphold these principles for national development.
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving will be observed annually on July 1 to serve as a moment for reflection and unity.
