The RNAQ Foundation is set to launch a nationwide Food Bank initiative aimed at providing one hot, nutritious meal daily to vulnerable Ghanaians, with no conditions attached.

Official food distribution begins on Friday, 1st August, with four operational centres strategically positioned in high-need communities across Accra. These initial locations, selected based on population density and levels of deprivation, will be announced in the coming days.

Unlike conventional food relief models that focus on raw food or dry staples, the RNAQ Food Banks will serve freshly prepared meals sourced directly from local food vendors.

According to spokesperson Patricia Hlorbu, the initiative not only guarantees nutritional value but also stimulates local economies by supporting small-scale catering businesses.

“The Food Bank Project marks a significant milestone for the Foundation,” she noted. “This comes in the wake of Richard Nii Armah Quaye’s transition from his role as Board Chairman of Bills MicroCredit and Chairman and CEO of Quick Angels. Under his leadership, Bills evolved from a startup in 2009 into a key player in Ghana’s microfinance sector, disbursing over GHS 7.5 billion in loans to underserved communities.”

The project targets low-income households, street children, the elderly, and individuals facing short-term food insecurity, addressing the growing challenge of hunger in urban and peri-urban communities.

Speaking at the launch earlier this year, Mr Richard Nii Armah Quaye, the initiative’s financier, emphasised its broader purpose: “This is about more than food. It’s about restoring dignity, hope and a sense of community responsibility.”

With a long-term vision to scale nationwide, Mr Quaye has pledged to extend the Food Bank project to all ten regions of Ghana, establishing a network of permanent centres dedicated to inclusive social welfare and human development.
