Scholarship Secretariat to partner CID to roll out crime-curbing strategy

The Registrar of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat, Alex Asafo-Agyei, has revealed plans to roll out a crime-curbing initiative aimed at clamping down on the sale of scholarships.

Mr. Asafo-Agyei made the announcement during a strategic meeting with the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, at the Police Headquarters on Monday, July 21.

As part of the initiative—being implemented in collaboration with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service—a dedicated hotline will soon be launched. The hotline will provide a direct channel for victims of scholarship-related fraud to report cases and submit evidence.

The objective is to support thorough investigations and facilitate the swift prosecution of perpetrators.

The meeting also offered Mr. Asafo-Agyei the opportunity to formally introduce himself to IGP Yohuno and outline plans to allocate specific scholarship quotas to police personnel, as part of the Secretariat’s public service support strategy.

In response, IGP Yohuno welcomed the proposal and reaffirmed the Police Service’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote both national security and social development.
