Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has stated that Ghana’s economic situation has improved significantly since the current administration assumed office. Speaking on TV3’s Hot Issues, he highlighted key indicators that suggest progress in the country’s financial and economic management.

“I think any objective observer would agree that the country is in a much better position than it was when we took over power. Look at the economy, for instance, and the economy is important because that was the single most important item for the Ghanaian voter barely a year ago,” he said.

He further explained that the metrics used to evaluate economic performance indicate positive trends. “All the things that we use to measure the performance of an economy are pointing in the right direction,” Kwakye Ofosu noted.

The Minister emphasised the ease with which the country’s progress can be measured.

“I think that we have acquitted ourselves quite well, and it is fairly easy to measure this sort of performance. You just need to look at where the country was barely a year ago and where we are now,” he added.

Kwakye Ofosu also pointed to specific areas where improvements are visible. “There’s evidence in reduction of cost of living through the reduction in prices.

“The depreciation of the currency, which was a perennial problem and was one of the things which used to worry our economy the most, has been brought under control such that for the first time in many years that I can remember, the Cedi is going to record an annual appreciation of close to 30%,” he shared.

The late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East, Naser Toure Mahama, will be buried today, Monday, January 5, 2026, following his death on Sunday, January 4, at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital after a brief illness.

In line with Islamic practice, funeral and burial arrangements have been carried out within a short timeframe, with family members, colleagues, and residents of Nima and Kanda gathering for the final rites.

Member of Parliament for Ayawaso North, Yussif Jajah, confirmed that administrative processes at the mortuary were expedited to allow the body to be released promptly.

“As we speak now, we have brought the body home,” he said on Sunday night.

Janazah prayers are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Ayawaso East Constituency Office along the Kanda Highway, after which the late MP will be buried at the Madina Cemetery.

“God willing, tomorrow morning at 10 o’clock, prayers will be observed at the Kanda Highway where his constituency office is. His Eminence, the National Chief Imam, will lead the Janazah prayer,” Mr. Jajah stated.

Naser Toure Mahama represented Ayawaso East in Parliament and was closely associated with community-level engagement, particularly in Nima and surrounding areas.

Ghana has condemned what it describes as the unilateral and unauthorised military invasion of Venezuela by the United States, warning that the action undermines international law and global stability.

In a press release dated January 4, 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Ghana was “alarmed” by reports of the invasion and the subsequent abduction of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, in the early hours of Saturday, January 3.

“Ghana expresses strong reservations against unilateral use of force and strongly deplores such acts that violate the Charter of the United Nations and international law, as well as the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political independence of States,” the statement said.

The government stressed that it is closely monitoring developments in Venezuela and warned that military assaults on sovereign states carry far-reaching consequences beyond national borders.

“Such assaults on international law, attempts at the occupation of foreign territories and apparent external control of oil resources have extremely adverse implications on international stability and the global order,” the release stated.

Ghana is not happy about the Venezuela situation, cautioning against what it described as a return to colonial-era thinking.

In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed deep concern over remarks attributed to US President Donald Trump suggesting that the United States would “run” Venezuela until a transition deemed “safe, proper and judicious,” and that American oil companies would be invited to “go in.”

“These declarations are reminiscent of the colonial and imperialist era,” Ghana stated, warning that such ambitions “should have no place in the post-Second World War era.”

According to the government, allowing powerful states to impose political outcomes on others puts every nation at risk and weakens the foundations of the international system.

“To allow this is to put the international community at great risk and undermine the sovereignty of every country,” the statement said.

Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to the principle of self-determination, maintaining that Venezuela’s political future must be decided by its own people without external coercion.

“Only the Venezuelan people should freely determine their political and democratic future,” the release stressed.

Rapper Sarkodie has reacted to reports that Ebo Noah has been arrested for false communication and causing fear and panic.

In a post shared via Instagram story on January 2, the rapper is said to have indicated that he knew Ebo Noah was creating content.

He did not know that the content creator had committed any crime.
