Also this week, Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, launched a scathing attack on the Electoral Commission (EC), declaring its entire leadership unfit for purpose and calling for their removal.
Speaking on PM Express on JoyNews, Mr Asiedu Nketia said the Electoral Commission had failed at its core duty of managing credible elections. He pointed to what he described as a worrying pattern of electoral mismanagement under the current team.
The Bank of Ghana, in a letter dated 19 June 2025, communicated its decision not to confirm the appointments of a fraction of personnel recruited in December 2024, saying the affected persons’ appointments were not successful during the assessment.
According to the BoG, it took the decision after it finalised its staff probation review and exercise, resulting in the majority of these personnel engaged after December 7, 2024.
In a surprising turn of events, the BoG reversed its earlier decision to terminate the appointments of nearly 100 personnel recruited in December 2024, following growing public attention and internal discussions.
The decision, which had initially been justified by the Central Bank as a routine post-probation review, is now shrouded in uncertainty, with the latest move raising questions about the original grounds for the layoffs.
