The Transport Ministry has refuted claims that it is refusing to grant The Fourth Estate access to information regarding a contract with Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
This clarification follows comments made by Sulemana Braimah, Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa, in a social media post alleging that the Ministry was deliberately withholding contract details.
The contract in question concerns payments made in 2022 for the disinfection of airports and aviation facilities.
In a statement, the Ministry emphasised that it is in full compliance with the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2019 (Act 989), and is processing the request in accordance with the law.
“The Ministry would like to draw the attention of the general public to the fact that it is not denying The Fourth Estate access to the information but is following due processes,” the statement said.
According to the Ministry, The Fourth Estate submitted a formal RTI request on May 28, 2025, seeking a copy of the contract between the Ministry and Zoomlion Ghana Limited.
The Ministry noted that it responded in line with the provisions of the RTI Act.
“The Fourth Estate has just started the process and is encouraged to exhaust the entire procedure. The Ministry is not and would not shield any corporate organisation or individual involved in any wrongdoing, and remains committed to ensuring good governance for the people of Ghana,” the statement added.
It concluded by reaffirming the Ministry’s dedication to transparency and accountability, while urging the public to respect the procedures laid out under the RTI framework.
“The Ministry wishes to assure the general public of its commitment to transparency, probity, and accountability, and will continue to provide leadership and guidance for the development of the transport sector.”
