TUCEE and LECERP Join Forces to Combat the Hidden Scars of School Bullying

In a powerful demonstration of national advocacy, the TUCEE Institute of Counselling and Technology, in partnership with the Legon Centre for Education Research and Policy (LECERP) at the University of Ghana, marked the International Day Against Violence and Bullying at Schools with a transformative event that placed emotional safety at the centre of education.

Held at Presbyterian Senior High School in Mampong-Akuapem on November 6, 2025, the programme highlighted the invisible yet deeply damaging effects of bullying—effects that often outlast the school environment and shape a young person’s emotional well-being for life.

Rooted in the global theme “The Scars You Don’t See: The Lasting Impact of Violence and Bullying,” the gathering underscored TUCEE’s broader mission of championing empathy, emotional intelligence, and safe learning spaces within Ghana’s educational ecosystem.

Unmasking the Hidden Damage of Bullying

The event’s keynote facilitator, Mr. Wisdom K. Kudjordji, a seasoned communications and behavioural expert, delivered an engaging and introspective session that challenged students to rethink the cost of their actions and words. Through interactive reflection exercises, he guided participants to confront the reality that bullying leaves emotional and psychological wounds that are often hidden from sight but painfully felt.

Mr. Kudjordji’s presentation shed light on the various forms of bullying—physical, verbal, relational, sexual, and cyberbullying—revealing their long-term consequences, which can include chronic anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, social withdrawal, and in severe cases, suicidal ideation.
He posed a striking question: “Have you ever thought about how your words or actions affect others?” A question that resonated strongly across the room.

He further warned perpetrators that harming others is not without consequence: “The harm you cause others now will haunt you later in life. No one builds a bright future on another person’s pain.”

“See It. Say It. Stop It.”

A central message echoed throughout the programme was the call to action for students to become active defenders rather than silent bystanders.
Participants were reminded to:

See it.
Say it.
Stop it.

Students were encouraged to replace self-blame with self-worth, speak up when affected, and seek support when needed.

Counselling, Healing, and Safe Expression

Beyond the main engagement, TUCEE counsellors conducted a private counselling and Q&A session where students shared personal experiences, some revealing ongoing struggles with bullying.
These interactions provided a safe space for healing, guidance, and emotional validation—a core aspect of TUCEE’s holistic counselling approach.

TUCEE’s Ongoing Commitment

The event reaffirmed TUCEE Institute’s commitment to promoting psychological safety and nurturing the emotional resilience of learners across the country. By partnering with LECERP, TUCEE continues to amplify its advocacy for empathy, mental health awareness, and supportive educational environments.

As the challenges of violence and bullying evolve in both physical and digital spaces, TUCEE stands ready to lead national efforts in empowering students with the skills, confidence, and emotional intelligence needed to thrive.

For future collaborations and initiatives, TUCEE encourages stakeholders, schools, and communities to engage through its Programmes Manager, Mr. Ato Anamann.
