Ghana’s Black Queens take on hosts Morocco on Tuesday in the semi-finals of the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
It’s a high-stakes clash at the Stade Olympique in Rabat, as both teams chase a spot in the final. For Ghana, this marks their first appearance in the WAFCON semi-finals since 2016, and a chance to reach the final for the first time in nearly two decades.
Morocco, on the other hand, are aiming to go one better after finishing as runners-up in 2022.
Form Guide
Morocco topped Group A with 7 points (2 wins, 1 draw), scoring seven goals and conceding four. In the quarter-finals, they beat Mali 3-1 with a brace from Ibtissam Jraïdi and a late strike from Kenza Chapelle. The Atlas Lionesses are the tournament’s top scorers with 10 goals, and captain Ghizlane Chebbak is joint-top of the Golden Boot race with four goals.
Ghana had a shaky start, losing 2-0 to South Africa, drawing 1-1 with Mali, and bouncing back with a 4-1 win over Tanzania. In the quarter-finals, they overcame Algeria on penalties after a goalless draw, with goalkeeper Cynthia Konlan making two crucial saves.
