WAFCON 2024: ‘We believed in ourselves’ – Chantelle on Black Queens’ big win over Tanzania

Black Queens forward Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah says the team never lost belief, even after a frustrating first half, as Ghana powered to a 4-1 victory over Tanzania in their final Group C clash at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

After a 1-1 first half, the Queens came alive in the second, with goals from Alice Kusi, Evelyn Badu, and Boye-Hlorkah herself sealing a dominant win to book a place in the quarterfinals.

The win marked their first reach to the last eight of the continental event since 2016.

“There were 45 minutes left, we knew what we had to do,” Chantelle said in an exclusive interview with JoySports’ Lawrence Baidoo.

‘We knew we were the better team in the first half,” Chantelle said.

“All respect to Tanzania, but we were the better team and we should’ve scored more goals in the first half.

“So the belief was there, it never dropped, but we just needed that extra bit of conversation, maybe just that little bit of a kick to say like girls,  we don’t need to drop our heads because look at what we’re playing. “

Ghana now shifts focus to the quarterfinals, where they face Algeria at the Stade de Berkane on July 19.
