The Gonja Kingdom has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic Ghana Airforce helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including one of its own, Sandapewura Alhaji Lammuna Mohammed Muniru.
In a statement released on behalf of the kingdom, His Royal Majesty Yagbonwura Bii Kunuto Jewu Soale (I) described the incident as a national tragedy that has shaken the entire country. “It is with profound sorrow that the Gonja Kingdom received the tragic news of the fatal crash involving the Ghana Airforce Z9 helicopter,” the statement said.
The helicopter crash, which occurred on Wednesday, August 6, claimed the lives of high-ranking officials and service members, including Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, who served as the Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator and was a cherished son of the Gonja Kingdom.
“This heartbreaking incident claimed the lives of distinguished Ghanaian officials and revered citizens,” the statement added, highlighting the significant loss not just for Gonjas but for the entire nation.
The Gonja Kingdom extended its “heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families” and declared its support for the Government and people of Ghana “in mourning this great loss which has shaken the nation to its core.”
Describing the tragedy as one that “echoes across the hearts of all who cherish peace, service, and sacrifices,” the kingdom stressed the importance of honouring the legacy of those who died.
“As a kingdom rooted in tradition and unity, we honour the legacy of those who have passed and recognise the profound contributions they made to our people and our country,” the Yagbonwura said.
The statement ended with a prayer for comfort and healing: “We pray for strength for the families, comfort for the nation, and eternal rest for the departed souls. May their memory endure in peace and dignity.”
