Mr Ibu’s Family Speaks Out on Financial Hardship Two Years After His DeathThe family of late Nollywood actor and comedian Mr Ibu has opened up about the financial difficulties they have been facing since his passing.
During a recent visit by a content creator, the family revealed that Mr Ibu’s daughter and two sons are currently out of school due to unpaid fees and worsening financial challenges.According to the children’s mother, the family has also been struggling to meet basic needs.
She disclosed that they have been living without electricity for about two months and often rely on a nearby well for water because they cannot afford utility bills and other household expenses.She described life as extremely difficult, explaining that the family often has to look for places outside their home to charge their mobile phones.
Mr Ibu’s daughter, while appealing for support, expressed gratitude to her mother for doing everything possible to care for the family despite the hardships. She praised her efforts in providing food and trying to keep the children happy during the difficult period.
Fighting back tears, the children’s mother also revealed that the school recently contacted her regarding outstanding tuition fees, adding to the family’s growing concerns.Mr Ibu, whose real name was John Ikechukwu Okafor, battled health complications before his death. In 2023, he underwent the amputation of one of his legs following a prolonged illness that required multiple surgeries.
The veteran actor passed away on March 2, 2024, at the age of 62 after suffering a cardiac arrest.The family’s emotional appeal has sparked sympathy among fans and colleagues, many of whom remember Mr Ibu as one of Nigeria’s most beloved comedians.
