Tragedy struck in Ghana after a 26-year-old lawyer reportedly died following a cardiac arrest while celebrating the Black Stars’ victory over Panama in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The deceased, Sara Araba Tettey, was a newly qualified legal practitioner and a graduate of the Faculty of Law at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). She had recently been called to the Ghana Bar and was working with O & A Legal Consult.
According to reports, Sara was watching the match with friends at Standard Hostel in Bomso, near the KNUST campus in Kumasi, when celebrations broke out after Ghana secured the win. Moments later, she reportedly collapsed and became unresponsive.
Friends and other spectators quickly rushed her to KNUST Hospital, where doctors and emergency responders made extensive efforts to save her life.Medical personnel reportedly performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for about 45 minutes in an attempt to revive her.
Sadly, despite their efforts, she was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.The news has left family, friends, colleagues, and former classmates devastated. Many have described Sara as a brilliant, hardworking, compassionate young woman with a bright future ahead of her.Her body has been deposited at the hospital mortuary, while an autopsy is expected to determine the exact cause of death. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
