Accra, Ghana — Ghanaian creative entrepreneur Zed Benson continues to establish himself as one of the country’s most versatile talents, with a career spanning filmmaking, photography, graphic design, creative direction, marketing, and entrepreneurship.
With experience across multiple creative disciplines, Benson has worked on international entertainment campaigns while building businesses that support filmmakers, musicians, and brands in Ghana and beyond.
A graduate of the prestigious Beijing Film Academy, Benson left Ghana in 2009 to pursue his dream of becoming a filmmaker and entrepreneur. Although adapting to life in China came with language, cultural, and weather challenges, he remained focused on achieving his ambitions.
Shortly after graduating, he joined Road Pictures, where he began as a graphic designer before expanding his responsibilities into photography, video editing, content creation, and eventually rising to the role of Creative Director.
During his time in China, Benson collaborated with major entertainment companies, including Alibaba Pictures, Warner Bros., Sony, and Twentieth Century Fox. His work contributed to promotional campaigns for blockbuster films such as Avengers, Justice League, Tomb Raider, and Alita: Battle Angel, experiences that broadened his professional network across the global entertainment industry.
Seeking new opportunities, Benson later joined Uniway Communications and ME Production Agency, serving as Assistant Entertainment Director and Director of Photography respectively. He also co-founded Dream Team, an entertainment company that organized successful events including the Soulja Boy China Tour, Iyanya Club Tour, and the popular Wild Wasted Wet summer parties.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought many entertainment activities to a halt, prompting Benson to return to Ghana after nearly a decade abroad.
Back home, he launched initiatives aimed at strengthening Ghana’s creative ecosystem. Through ZEDSTUDIO, he helps businesses and brands develop creative content and marketing solutions, while Cinetek provides filmmakers with professional production equipment and technical support.
Today, Benson continues to collaborate with artists, filmmakers, and creatives across different countries, balancing commercial projects with personal creative work. His photography and filmmaking continue to reflect his international experience while maintaining strong African storytelling influences.
Reflecting on his journey, Benson said creativity remains the foundation of his life and career.
“Being creative is at the core of my existence. I’ve learned to see the world through two lenses, and together they keep me going.”
Despite managing several businesses, he says slowing down is not part of his plans.
“The grind continues. I’ll keep telling good stories, helping others bring their vision to life, and enjoying every step of the journey.”
As Ghana’s creative industry continues to gain global recognition, Benson’s career demonstrates how international experience, entrepreneurship, and artistic vision can contribute to the growth of African storytelling.
